A large Antique French Aubusson Verdure Tapestry Hanging. Woven in wool and silks. Depicting a woodland glade with Chateau in the distance. A pair of of lovely little Birds. From a Chateau sale in Normandy France.Very rare to have the following information woven into the bottom right corner. Fleur de lys (for France). Date Initials FF (for date 1783). Professionally re lined at some time in the past Antique condition as we found it with appropriate signs of wear commensurate with great age and use. Worked in two separate pieces and then skilfully woven together.
Please read below as to what to expect regarding condition and of course study photographs as they do. Form a very important part of the description. A large impressive example, extremely decorative with good colours.
Ready to hang in your home. SIZE 90 inches x 64 inches. On a genuine 18t h century verdure tapestry we would of course expect to see evidence confirming its 230 years of use, such as loose missing threads, areas of general wear, perhaps areas of re weaving / restoration, lines of separation within the weaving, sometimes areas of sun fading and brittle threads. Occasionally larger tapestries where woven in two or three separate loom width pieces and then woven / stitched together resulting in some variations in colour and design. All quite normal for great age and type.
