You are viewing a charming and quite rare signed and dated 1914 plaque by the French sculptor and medallist. This embossed plaquette belongs to a set of pieces he engraved in the early 20th Century for the Gerbe d'Or jewellery. Their theme was the different parts of the day, in the morningat noonat the evening. This is the evening part as a Lamartine quote says at the top: Le soir ramene les silence.
The evening brings back the silence. It is probably one of the last master pieces to be made by Etienne-Victor Exbrayat, as he died a few months later killed in World War I.
It is a complete and beautiful Art Nouveau Art work so full of grace and sensitivity. Depicting a nude lady watching a sailboat at the seashore. He was pupil to Ponscarme and Thomas. He exhibited at the Salon of the Société des Artistes Francais from 1904 and received an honorable mention for his Salon entry. He became an associate of the Société des Artistes Francais in 1905 and received a third-class medal in 1911.
It is in fairly good condition with a nice patina. Some wear, nicks and scratches evident, as well as corrosion spots.I have not attempted to clean the medal at all. Fixed on a marble patterned paperboard.
