An exceptional quality, original French aesthetic period towards art nouveau transition, circa 1890s Limoges porcelain lamp base with exquisite hand painted spring cherry blossom pattern with a central cherubic child playing a violin and wrapped in pale blue ribbon, painted with wonderful delicacy and skill and signed Gerard, this is Émile Gerard prior to forming the GDA Limoges porcelain maker in 1899. This reliably dates around the 1890s and confirms maker, style, period of influence and the prestigious Limoges quality, one of the finest makers of the period and a desirable collectors as well as handsome antique and sublime decorative piece. The porcelain vase shape body is set into a gilded bronze 3 feet ornate base with excellent crisp cast detail featuring french Empire motifs and garlands, complimented with a bronze top housing the bulb holder.Measuring an impressive 43cm before the shade mount and with shade apx 70-75cm tall, depending on shade choice. A dramatic and imposing piece of lighting art, both function, form and a historical narrative, very good substantial weight.
