RARE ANTIQUE FRENCH 1800s CAST IRON HORSE HEAD BUTCHER TRADE SIGN
A Handsome RARE ANTIQUE FRENCH 19th century IRON HORSE HEAD BUST TRADE SIGN. This would have been displayed outside a butcher shop to designate the availability of horse meat, considered a delicacy. This is a detailed and life-like cast iron horse head, with a solid backplate, pre-drilled with four holes to support the hollow cast iron head. Dimensions: 30" high by 15" across and 22 depth. In excellent antique condition, sturdy and structurally sound, and with 150+ years of accumulated reddish-brown oxide patina (also known as rust). Note: there are no rust throughs anywhere on the piece.
Overall, an impressive piece and a beautifully sculpted, heavy, and solid life-size sculpture.
