This is a very large fine 19. Century French Belle Epoque oil on canvas depicting a girl holding a mandolin by the eminent Parisian painter. Is signed by the artist and dated 1889.As with all of the original antique oil paintings we sell it is offered in the finest condition it can be for its age. Having been professionally cleaned and re-varnished. Édouard Vimont studied at the École des Beaux Arts in Paris and in the studios of Alexandre Cabanel and Théodore Maillot. Vimont exhibited at the Salon from 1870, winning several medals of honour and eventually becoming a full member of the Salon des Artistes in 1892. Works by Vimont appear very rarely on the open market and the whereabouts of some of his most important paintings are unknown. Predominantly a painter of grand history paintings in the French academic tradition, I suspect one reason for this is that his neoclassical Greco-Roman subjects would have been coveted by the Nazis who of course stoke a great many important paintings in the 1930s and 40s. (framed) 129cm x 83cm (50¾ x 32¾). (canvas only) 108cm x 60cm (42½ x 23½).
Previously in the private collection of the Parisian businessman François Delrieu. Newly professionally cleaned and re-varnished.
We do not sell dirty, damaged or unframed works of art. Where necessary the paintings we sell are cleaned and restored by Fine Art Restorations est.

Great care and much time is taken over the safe transportation of the paintings we sell. No second-hand bubble-wrap and reused cardboards boxes here. Before leaving us, each painting takes us approximately 2 to 3 hours to properly i.Safely and securely package for transport; whether for a journey or 30 miles or 3000. Every painting is first wrapped in acid free paper and then the entire frame is enveloped in deep, dense foam U cushioning. This is then covered in numerous layers of AirCap bubble wrap, which is the best and safest product of its type on the market. The entire package is then bound in black shrink wrap (as used by airline companies) and a final later of waterproof cloth tape is applied to all corners, ends and edges. UK clients are also most welcome to collect from us in South Buckinghamshire. We are very aware that not all of clients are in a position to pay the entire sale price upfront.
